What Were the Skies Like?

Pretty rough day. Spent the last three on Cape Breton Island..Boston marathon dreadful news..  our neighbours just over the border. "The Boston States" our people called it and some of the old folks still do.

Then Margaret Thatcher boos and hiss across the pond...and then... heart wrenching news..Rita Mac Neil died. She sang my brother's song.

"Buck up GB" I think.... driving, tears wet on my face listening to Rita's classic "Working Man".

"Home I'll Be" is another one of my favourites.

The sky held promise...."The Circle Continues" ...

Rise high Rita... angel clouds await. The band's gonna rock!

  1. Darling Brenda. Canada lost a beautiful perfect woman with the voice of an angel. I can only imagine how our Canadian family on the east coast is feeling today. My heart is there with you.

  2. Ah, Gardeningbren - it was a hard week. I was so sorry to hear about Rita, who was a neighbour, really. Big Pond is that close to Ben Eion. I always think that she sang my father's song - A Working Man I Am.....but I see that she really did sing your brother's song. I'm so glad you posted this!

    1. Your know Pondside..she sang everyone's song. Each and every one touched a chord inside our hearts. She is our Cape Breton Royalty and will get a fine send off to be sure.

  4. The world has had its share of troubles this week. Very sad. But the sky photo is a wonder.

  6. it has been a long week. A co-worker was running in Boston, dreadful waiting to hear word. He and his family narrowly missed the blast. I hope your trip went smoothly otherwise.

    1. Marguerite, I am pleased to read your co-worker and family escaped the blast but am sure the sad reality of that dreadful day will remain with them always.

Yes, thank you..the trip went fairly smoothly. You were so kind to ask.

  7. Hi Bren, It was a sad day for all of her fans and for Nova Scotia in particular when Rita Mac Neil passed. My Mom took my sister to one of her concerts last summer (my sister is a big fan). Margaret Thatcher...another great lady who had a big impact on the world. Boston was a final blow. What a week! Who can ever see these things coming? Every once in a while something poisonous crawls up from out of the shadows.
On a lighter note I must tell you how impressed I am with the way the cold frame is working. I stored the top of my birdbaths in there for the winter as well as some delicate plants. Everything came through the winter just fine. This spring I have been using it to get my seedlings going. I may have to transform a second raised bed into a cold frame for next year and do some more experiments.

    1. Jennifer, thank you for your sensitive and kind comment.

As for the cold frame..I am delighted that you are pleased with yours. Mine has given us so much pleasure and so many greens. It is perfect for starting your seedlings, preparing them to transplant out or just to grow on where you have them planted. Excellent!
